Tommy Fury faces Eddie Hall in a Misfits Boxing main event from Manchester!

Tommy Fury and Eddie Hall will meet in a Misfits Boxing main event today from Manchester, England.

Fury is 11-0 (4 KO) as a pro boxer, but today’s fight is not a fully sanctioned pro fight, though it is full contact. Fury weighed in at a career-high 217½ lbs to try and combat the sheer size of former strongman star Hall, who came in at 325½.

This is a novelty event, but it’s one that has kicked up some intrigue and interest, and I’m gonna watch just for the sake of it, so might as well be here. We’ll have live discussion down in the comments section for the full card, so if you’re curious and tuning in, you can also join us!

If you were really scoring this the way boxing works, Fury definitely won the fight. Eddie Hall did fine given he’s not a boxer and all, but Fury was the better boxer, and it was boxing. Commentary played the role they usually do for fights like this; e.g., “Whoa, that guy who isn’t a boxer sort of landed a punch!” or “Is the guy who’s a boxer hurt on that punch that sort of landed?!?!” (No.)

These type matchups have happened enough that they have pretty standard rhythms now. No one really wants to see the famous person who isn’t a boxer get totally embarrassed, it’s bad for everyone’s business. So it played out like it did. Fury circled around the ring a bunch, Hall was pretty clearly physically spent by the end of the third round, and so on. It wasn’t really all that interesting or exciting but the live crowd had a nice time and it also wasn’t boring. It is what it is, as they say.

None of this really matters or anything so I’m just going to embed my own comments from the live discussion:

Taylor also raced across the ring to start a “chaotic brawl,” at which point the DJ immediately needle dropped “I Predict a Riot” by Kaiser Chiefs. After Taylor was dragged out screaming like a weirdo, Floyd did a rambling promo that you can probably find video of if you’re all that interested, the same as the rest of this. But I’m not going to participate in everyone’s hope to “go viral” here; this was all pretty pathetic even for this platform’s standard attention-seeking gimmickry.

This was an absurd “Body Shots Only” fight because Stacks got punched by Jordan McCann at the presser the other day, and was briefly pulled from the card due to damage on his lip and teeth. “Body Shots Only” very predictably turns out to be what you’d expect, which is that guys will just cover their midsections with their arms, especially if it’s two guys with arms this big, so mostly what you get is punches to the arms. The crowd loudly booed the “action” at one point.

Anyways, “The Hardest Man in the UK” got pretty much dominated out there and pretty much quit after being knocked down, with the fight resuming and Korleone continuing the only allowed attack, to the body. Kind of the worst possible outcome, to basically ask out of the fight, if your shtick is being “The Hardest Man in the UK.” Branding usually doesn’t take a hit from losing fights on these shows but this time that might happen.

One of the worst boxing matches I have ever seen in my life from a technical standpoint, and I’m saying anything from Redneck Brawl to the proper low-level pros and in between and beyond.

In lieu of describing the, uh, “action,” I present two mini-poems from its combatants, from their post-fight comments.

Jade Jones against people who can’t fight is deeply unfair, honestly. Not that she’s a natural boxer; she’s a two-time Olympic gold medalist in taekwondo. But she’s trained with a real trainer (Stephen Smith) to do this and she has a proper high-level athlete’s mindset and ability to learn. She is also not going to get even an ounce of jitters or stage fright, she’s fought in Olympic gold medal matches and won them for God’s sake, she’s faced, many times, people who can actually beat her at something. Her against these randos from the internet in any type of fighting is borderline absurd. It’s just purely different levels of competitive mindset and ability.

This wasn’t as brutal a finish as her fight with Egypt Criss in February, but she had no trouble here. FederiKita was mentally finished by the end of the first round and pretty much asked her corner to throw the towel in the second, which they did, and should have.

Stopped on a cut. Nothing fight, really. Once Biel got the cut, he really didn’t want to continue, though it took everyone a while to come to that decision. Biel is a Brazilian musician who hasn’t charted since 2016, though the Misfits commentators assured me he’s Very Popular, thinking I wouldn’t fact check that, and he came into this on very short notice. Swarmz is now 2-4 in Misfits Boxing, as best I can tell, but being fair to him he’s usually been in against people who are half-decent for the level.

Pardesi did OK, really, better than the cards might suggest, which is not to say the cards should have been any different. Brooks was better. At 46, Brooks looked like he should really stop doing these fights, though he is a decent fighter for the level and all. But he’s got money and kids and has proven whatever there is to prove doing this stuff. But that’s his call, obviously.

If we’re going to talk about these like we talk about other fights, then this was pretty embarrassing for Snows. Snows is an “18+ content creator” who happily danced to the ring with a person too short to be in a Chewbacca costume, but short enough to do the full routine with Snows. Anyway, it was clear immediately that Tina Snows can’t fight and Sheena Bathory can, at least to some degree. Snows looked terrified as soon as she had punches coming her way. She was knocked down and clearly wanted out, basically asking for time because getting punched hurts, it turns out. The fight did continue, though it didn’t need to, and after a second knockdown, the towel came in.

At the press conference earlier in the week, Snows had hit Bathory, a Power Slap participant, in the face with a hamburger. After the fight was over, Bathory presented Snows with a hamburger and they hugged, then they did a bit where Bathory “spanked” Snows while Snows “twerked.” She twerked about six times counting the entrance, which makes for six twerks and zero punches landed. Snows seemed in good enough spirits and I guess a payday is a payday.

Really fun fight. Look, we all know what the levels are here, and neither of these guys had any defensive ability whatsoever, but they came to brawl, they did, they showed a little offensive skill. They were game and the fight was very entertaining, all you really need to ask of this stuff. These two should both be proud of their effort. Both came off the canvas and kept fighting hard. Karim definitely deserved the win.

Bellsy definitely the better boxer of the two. Better form and technique. Could pass for a mid-level pro, really. Very limited skill set but has clearly hammered on a few key things to be, like, competent. Probably no Plan B in there or anything, but, well. Mid-level pro. I’m saying what I’m saying. The CrAsian did attempt a Superman Punch near the final bell. Didn’t land.
